Kokusaba Tutoring to Open New Azabu-Juban Learning Center in March 2027, Supporting International School Students from Everyday Learning to Future Pathways
Small-group math classes taught in English, with coaching for secondary school students focused on goal-setting and regular reflection

Kokusaba Tutoring, which has supported international school students through one-on-one tutoring, is expanding its approach with a new learning environment where students can learn alongside their peers. The new center is scheduled to open in March 2027 inside Ohana International Preschool in Azabu-Juban, Minato-ku, Tokyo.
The center will serve students in Grades 1–12. At launch, the primary focus will be small-group classes where students can build their math skills systematically in English.
Key Highlights
● Small-group math classes taught in English, combined with one-on-one tutoring when needed
● Courses for secondary school students include coaching to support goal-setting and preparation for future academic pathways
● Opportunities to learn alongside students from different schools and seek advice from university student tutors with experience in international curricula
● Hands-on learning events planned ahead of the opening, inviting students to “Bring Your Math Homework!”
Supporting Different School Curricula and a Wide Range of Future Pathways
International schools follow a variety of educational programs, including the International Baccalaureate (IB), AP, IGCSE, and Cambridge curricula, with differences in content, pace, and assessment methods. The preparation students need also varies depending on the country, university, and field of study they hope to pursue. This makes it important to consider day-to-day learning and subject choices as part of a student’s broader academic pathway.
Kokusaba has supported more than 400 students from over 180 schools through one-on-one tutoring tailored to each student’s schoolwork and goals. Alongside day-to-day academic support, parents have also sought guidance on how their children should prepare for future academic pathways. In response, the new center will include ongoing coaching as part of its programs for secondary school students.
Three Key Features of the New Learning Center
The new center will collaborate with Kikokushijo Academy (KA), part of the same education group as Kokusaba. Drawing on KA’s extensive experience and strong track record in supporting students from English-based junior high school admissions through university pathways in Japan and overseas, the two will work together on curriculum development and instruction.
1. Learn in Small Groups, with Individual Support When Needed
Small-group math classes taught in English will be organized according to students’ level of understanding and learning needs. One-on-one tutoring will also be available as needed for school homework, test preparation, and additional support in areas where students may be struggling, for an additional fee.
Kokusaba will also consider expanding into other subjects in the future based on student needs and teaching resources.
2. Coaching for Everyday Learning and Future Pathways
Courses for students in Grades 8–12 will include ongoing coaching at no additional cost. Students will begin by reviewing their current academic situation, interests, and goals, with regular opportunities to reflect on their progress.
For students who already have a clear direction in mind, coaching will help them identify the steps needed to reach their goals and prepare accordingly. For those who are still exploring their options, coaches will work with them to identify their interests and strengths.
3. Connect with Peers and Mentors Beyond School
The new center will bring together students from different schools and give them opportunities to seek advice from university student tutors and others who have studied through international curricula.
Through connections with mentors who are closer to them in age, Kokusaba aims to create a supportive community outside school where students can feel comfortable talking about both their studies and their future.
“Bring Your Math Homework!” Experience Kokusaba’s Approach to Learning Support
At the International Education Expo in Tokyo on November 7, 2026, Kokusaba plans to hold a hands-on event under the theme “Bring Your Math Homework.”
Students can bring their math homework or assignments from school and work through them in English with a Kokusaba tutor. Together, they will identify where the student may be getting stuck and explore different ways to approach problems and learn more effectively.
Kokusaba is also planning limited-time trial lessons and workshops in the Fukasawa area of Setagaya in 2026. Dates and participation details will be announced through the official website and Instagram.
The timing and details of these events are subject to change.
A Message from the Founder
“Children in international education attend different schools, follow different curricula, and have different goals for the future. At our new learning center, we want to build on the strengths of our personalized support while creating a place where students can learn alongside their peers, build confidence, and develop the ability to learn independently. We hope it will become a place where students feel they can always turn when they need support.”
